When I was the staff of YMCA Hyderabad, India.
1. The foundation stone for the YMCA Children’s home in Hyderabad was laid by Hermann Kupschs, as a commemoration of the International Year of Shelter in 1986. This home combined school education and vocational training for children. By the time children left our home they had school education and also a technical trade helping them to stand on their feet as productive community member.
2. Kupschs on behalf of German YMCA also inaugurated the Center for Peace and Harmony, in Old city of Hyderabad where every year riots and arsons on religious conflicts between Hindus and Muslims takes place. It took 6 years for us to bring a Hindu youth and an Islamic youth to come to play table tennis or even learn wire-winding or carpentry. Also for Hindu and Islamic young girls to come together to learn tailoring or bridal designs.
Today this center proclaims reconciliation. It runs a large group of youth as Peace Initiators and also runs a center for mediation with Henry Martin Institute for people of all faith. The peace initiative today has become a community programme. CVJM Germany journeyed as a co-pilgrim in this mediation and Peace-mission with YMCA Hyderabad.
